Dark Owl Publishing is your experienced source for

For many artists and creatives, they are fantastic at creating art, but they need help with producing the book or product that showcases that art and that they can get in front of the public. This is where DOP comes in.
This webpage explains the details of my book project and publishing services. I go over what you need to provide, what I will provide, pricing, and how we will work together.
My goal is to make your published work the best it can possibly be!
How It Works
What I offer...
Layout of the book. I have extensive experience in book layout, including insertion of images that are sized correctly for the printer's requirements.
I can take the images and information you provide and organize everything in a clear and concise manner so it is visually appealing and enjoyable for your readers.
Design of the cover, title page, copyright, and introduction, as needed. This includes choosing fonts, color schemes, and back cover copy.
Composition and/or content and copy editing of any text required for the book. Artists usually have a story written to go along with their graphic novel or comic book. But, sometimes artists and creatives will want descriptions to go with their sketches or coloring book images, and they can't put words to paper. I can write descriptions, and I will always provide content and copy editing to any text you provide.
Help with publication and distribution of your book. I will help you set up your own author account on whichever platform you decide to use and help you with printing and distribution of your book. If we decide to publish your book through Dark Owl Publishing, I will be able to send you printed copies as you need them.

How It Works
What I need from you...
Your images, such a storyboards, line art, photographs, or graphics. We can work together to figure out the layout of your images and the order you want them to appear. With coloring books, I recommend one image on the right-facing page so it can be colored without bleed onto the image behind it.
Front and back covers images in full color. It's best if the cover image is your own rather than an outside graphic design. This is especially true for a coloring book, where it looks like the image is only partially colored to spark your readers' imaginations. I can design the layout of the cover, including font styles and color schemes.
Any additional information you want to include, such as text, introduction, titles, descriptions, and/or stories to accompany the images. If you only have your images and don't have any text, I can compose it for you based off your ideas.
Publication date. This is all up to you! Figure out what date you want to publish. If we decide to publish through Dark Owl Publishing, we will come up with a publication date together.
I follow the Independent Book Publishers Association's
requirements for hybrid publishing.

How It Works
Hybrid Publication through Dark Owl...
Dark Owl Publishing has become a basic hybrid publishing house for authors who want their work available to the public but don't want the hassle of self-publication. Your work is available on the Dark Owl website as print on demand for anyone to access. You can guide readers to your own artist/creator page on the website.
Most importantly, I do not keep the rights to your book. Publishers pay for the rights to exclusive access of your intellectual property (IP) for an agreed-upon length of time. I don't take on your IP so I can continue to produce other work.
If we decide to publish your book through Dark Owl, I only require a $300 fee* for my time for the work involved to get your book ready for publication. This is for the entire book, cover included. In exchange, I ask for limited rights to distribute the book we design together directly from my website via your own author page, and I will give you 60% of the net profit I receive from each book sold. I will ship books to you anytime you need them at the print, tax, and shipping costs - no extra fees required.
In this way, you are in complete control of your IP. You can sell it as you wish where you wish and for however much you want. You can use it for advertising or podcasts. Dark Owl is simply the mechanism you can use to get your book published.
*This fee may be lower for shorter-length projects.
