PUBLISHING
SERVICES

Hello & Welcome!
Hi! I'm Andrea Thomas -
Owner, Manager, and Lead Editor of Dark Owl Publishing.
DOP is a woman-owned, single-owner microbusiness where the goal is high quality publishing and printed products. From novels to coloring books, from graphic novels to gaming sheets and booklets, I can help you with your project design and publication.
Publishing involves a lot of work outside of writing and illustrations. My goal is to make it easier for you, and at a low price. DOP works as a hybrid publishing house focusing on you being in control of your creation. I am extremely flexible with any project because I want you - the author, artist, or creator - to present your passion to the world at the best quality possible.
Most importantly, I do not keep the rights to your work. This is about your creativity, not mine, and I am here to help you along every step of the way. My goal is to make your published work the best it can possibly be!

Why Dark Owl Publishing?
(The long version)
I have nearly 30 years of wide-ranging experience with technical and creative writing, editing, formatting, and publication. I went straight from college with a B.A. in English to being a word processor at an environmental consulting and construction firm. My strong skills led me to writing and editing technical reports, proposals, standard operating procedures, documents compliant with government rules and regulations, and other official public and classified records. I also went to school for medical transcription, which led me to transcribing for Fortune 500 companies, NASA and other prominent government entities, entertainment industries such as SyFy, WWE, and UFC, and news outlets including NBC and local news channels. I also volunteered in animal welfare rescue and education and ran a blog exposing the illegal abuse of Tennessee Walking Horses.
I started working for creatives at conventions and renaissance festivals in 2014. In 2016, I met an independent publisher at a convention and began editing for them. I then started Dark Owl Publishing in 2020. Publishing has led me to running tables and booths at vendor markets and conventions on a regular basis, so I have learned the unique requirements of catering to convention audiences. I've learned a lot by being proactive in learning how to publish books online and for physical copies. I also have graphic design experience, including creating interesting interiors and full cover layouts for books.
Currently, I am the permanent manager for Ruth Thompson Fantasy Art at their Arizona Renaissance Festival booth, and I also work in production for the company. In addition, I do the layout, design, and publication of their coloring books. I am expanding my work to include other artists and creatives at renaissance festivals, producing such things as coloring books, graphic novels and gaming booklets.
Services Overview
I have tailored Dark Owl Publishing to suit the needs of authors, artists, and other creatives. My goal is to either help you self-publish or be your hybrid publisher where I collect a very small fee. This will take away the back end labor that you don't want to do so you can present your product to the public the way you wish it to be presented. Most importantly, you keep your rights to your IP.
What I offer:
-- Content and copy editing.
-- Design and layout of novels, anthologies, collections, coloring books,
graphic novels, and any other type of book you want to publish.
